A High-End Real Estate Photographer Shares the Most Memorable Spaces He's Photographed

Evan Joseph knows his way around the New York City real estate scene. The photographer's work has been featured in the pages of Elle Decor, Architectural Digest, and New York magazine, and his images have been selected as the cover of the New York Times Homes magazine more than 20 times. Here, Joseph rounds up the most unforgettable spaces he has shot.
Julian Schnabel’s New York City Triplex
Schnabel built his pink villa, Palazzo Chupi, over his studio in Greenwich Village. The artist oversaw all aspects of the interior design, and this shoot help me understand how architecture, design, and art can tie together to direct an unexpected composition: this shot is lined up to take advantage of the reflection of the setting sun and the position of the Empire State Building.
The Goodyear House in Old Westbury, New York
I absolutely adore the International Style of architecture and this Long Island home owned by one of my favorite designers, Eric Cohler, is an exceptional example.
The Stone Mansion in Alpine, New Jersey
This brand new, 30,000-square-foot home was built on the Frick Estate. I was fortunate to shoot this home throughout its construction, and everything about it is magnificent.
The Crocker Mansion in Mahwah, New Jersey
On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, this is the Crocker Mansion in Mahwah, New Jersey, a 55,000-square-foot single family home built by architect James Brite in the early 1900s. It was completely restored to its former glory and the hand-carved woodwork throughout is unmatched.
This detail shot was done entirely in natural light, which is always Joseph's preference.
A SoHo Loft in New York City
Another true work of art expressed through interior design, this is the work of David M. Sullivan. Sullivan has a unique perspective, and he personally directed the post-production look of the photographs, which were to be "cool and dark."
An Upper West Side Triplex
This hot tub in the middle of the "entertainment floor" of a gorgeous more-is-more triplex was designed by Javier Robles of Utopus. The Bacarrat crystal chandelier rains down in colors.
Andy Warhol's Former Compound in Montauk
Former J. Crew CEO Mickey Drexler purchased this seaside home.and hired Thierry Despont to lovingly restore it. It's now on the market.
Armand Hammer built the collection of fishing cottages in the 1920s.
Despont redesigned it with a nods both to the 20s (especially in the bathrooms, with the exquisitely restored period hardware) and the 60s with kitchy accessories that could have been used by Warhol and his friends. I couldn’t take my eyes off the details, from the door latches to the wood paneling.

Rupert Murdoch's Greenwich Village Townhouse
I was struck by this handsome black-tie entry.
Spike Lee's Upper East Side Townhouse
The director's home was also once owned by Jasper Johns and Gypsy Rose Lee.
The light-filled central courtyard makes it so different from every other townhouse in the area.
Sting and Trudie Styler's Upper West Side Duplex
The personal touches bring it to life, from the accordion next to the armchair to the books on the shelf.
