This season, haute couture fashion and new high jewelry collections returned to Paris to put on display to the world the exceptional skill and talents of the many designers, artisans, and craftsmen and women who create what the world views as true luxury. A whirlwind of dazzling jewels, innovative techniques, and thought-provoking designs were paraded and fêted. Here, we share designs from nine new high jewelry collections of the season to see and be inspired by. And, as always - merci, Paris, for continuing to put true beauty at the forefront.

1

Van Cleef & Arpels

Van Cleef & Arpels celebrates its iconic Mystery Set technique with the high jewelry collection Legend of Diamonds, which heralds the undeniable beauty and magnetism of magnificent gemstones and their enduring allure. These stones are imbued with a lightness and energy, thanks to the Mystery Set—the designs seem almost to float and move like fabrics, and, as such, they capture the eye.

The Volutes Mystérieuses necklace and matching earrings takes their inspiration and silhouettes from the au Courant bow diamond clips popular during the 1920s. The rubies—thanks to the Mystery Set—appear almost as velvet against a snow-set collar of white diamonds, while the earrings are each set with a 15-carat oval diamond and lend even more romance with their gentle curve, reminiscent of haute couture ribbons.

Boucheron

Boucheron's Ailleurs (or 'Elsewhere') high jewelry collection captures the dream-like feeling that certain special places in nature evoke—the places that feel like just yourself and the world around you are the only living things in existence. From the quiet beach to the whispering rainforest to the majestic mountains, Claire Choisne takes the viewer on a journey of rediscovery—of materials, forms, and one's self. The Galet Diamant necklace is a perfect example of this dual poetry of silhouette and raw object. Pebbles, which were hollowed out by jewelry craftsmen until almost translucent and set with pear-shaped and pavé diamonds, lend an organic but transporting feeling to any lucky viewer.

Buccellati

This year in Paris, Buccellati debuted never-before-seen pieces from its Vintage collection. These pieces, which hail from the 1940s to the 1990s, are emblematic of the maison's exceptional craftsmanship, extraordinary stones, and timeless designs. The Deep Light Blue Cuff, seen here, features segrinato engraving (a technique where tiny overlapping lines creates a soft visual effect the gold) on each leaf and a 74.25 carat carré aquamarine. A testament to the house's gold work prowess and Italian savior faire—the mind quite literally reels.

Chanel

Coco Chanel, in 1932, created her first high jewelry collection for the house of Chanel, with a goal of draping women in diamonds, like the constellations above us. This collection—one that flummoxed other Parisian houses of the time that considered her solely a fashion brand—has now inspired the maison's newest high jewelry collection, 90 years later. Here, the Soleil Doré earrings—which literally translates to 'golden sun'—sparkle and shimmer with radiating white and yellow diamonds meant to evoke, and maybe even capture, the sun's tantalizing rays.

De Beers

The second chapter of De Beers's high jewelry collection The Alchemist of Light that celebrates the characteristics and ways that light radiates throughout the universe boasts five sets of jewelry, with 45 designs in total. It's the most complicated of high jewelry collections from the brand, with many detachable and transformable elements. The Midnight Aura necklace—inspired by cosmic stardust—is set with African green chrysoprase with round and princess-cut diamonds within, a technique difficult to achieve. The setting, which was designed to feel and appear to be mesh-like, is finished with a 20.57 carat pear-shaped white diamond that is detachable—meaning the necklace can be worn several different ways. A true work of art, indeed.

6

Graff

Graffabulous, the 2022 high jewelry collection presented by Graff, delivers what the brand knows and does best: jaw-dropping and extraordinary stones set in beautiful monochromatic designs. This collection pays tribute to the grand majesty of truly magnificent stones, and does so with over 3,600 carats of diamonds, emeralds, rubies, and sapphires. Case in point: This all-white diamond necklace that is set with over 80 carats of diamonds and is a living example of exemplary craftsmanship. All you need now? A little black evening gown.

Art jeweler Cindy Chao returns to Paris with several new Black Label masterpieces in tow. Here, her new Gentlewoman Ribbon cuff took more than seven years to design and achieve and is her first creation to feature her new ribbon motif. This cuff was takes its cues from the French cuff, and its undulating form mimics the movement and delicacy of fabric. In this version, a lace seam is instead set with mesmerizing diamonds, while the cufflinks are two cushion-cut yellow diamonds. Chao, whose father was a sculptor and grandfather an architect, cites these two disciplines as inspiration to her work, clearly seen here in this end result.

Messika

This season, Valérie Messika, the founder and creative force behind the Paris-based Messika, dives into the lure and lore of ancient Egypt to inspire her Beyond the Light high jewelry collection. Graphic lines, exceptional stones, and motifs reminiscent of one of the most mysterious and sought-after cultures in history come to life in unforgettable pieces, like the Akh-Ba-Ka necklace: a diamond necklace with a center stone of 33 carats cut from a 110-carat rough cut diamond. Mimicking ancient Egypt's revered winged scarab, this necklace is sure to impart the wearer with a bit of its undeniable magic.

Taking its inspiration from the longest night of the year and the all the promises that those few hours of time represent, the Flamboyant Nightfall necklace from Piaget's Solstice collection boasts a cushion-cut Sri Lankan sapphire (weighing in at a hefty 15 carats) surrounded by an intricate setting filled with brilliant, round, and marquise-cut diamonds. This show-stopping design mimics the twinkling stars of the night sky—and makes the viewer feel as though time has completely stopped.
