The first Monday in May marks the return of the Met Gala once more—and with that plenty of celebrity red carpet glamour.

For 2022, the event marked the Costume Institute's second installment of a two-part exhibition, 'In America: An Anthology of Fashion', with a white-tie dress code described as 'gilded glamour'. This specifically refers to the Gilded Age, the period from roughly 1870 to 1890 marked by economic excess, industrialization, and everyday splendor for the upper classes.

Naturally, this called for varying interpretations of the theme across fashion and beauty, but also allowed for some particularly spectacular moments in the jewelry department. We saw impressive earrings and a tiara on Blake Lively (who theatrically transformed her gown on the stairs), statement chokers galore from the likes of Simone Ashley, Lizzo, Maude Apatow and Paloma Elsesser, and shimmering ear-cuffs worn by Dakota Johnson and Nicola Coughlan.

Below, we bring you our edit of the most spectacular jewels worn by this year's Met Gala attendees.

Blake Lively made a show-stopping entrance to this year's Met Gala as she arrived in one gown by Atelier Versace, which was then unwrapped to reveal another underneath. She was inspired by New York City for her ensemble, with her bejewelled tiara paying homage to the Statue of Liberty. She added to the drama with a pair of dazzling emerald drop earrings by Lorraine Schwartz.

Bridgerton's Simone Ashley attended her first Met Gala this year and she didn't disappoint. The actress styled her shimmering Moschino bodice with jewels from De Beers, via a statement collar necklace set in black rhodium-plated white gold with a yellow cut diamond, along with the matching pear-shaped earrings and a crown ring.

Lizzo

Lizzo matched her golden Thom Browne coat with stacked golden necklaces. The choker was a popular choice on this year's red carpet, with Lizzo joining the likes of Simone Ashley and Maude Apatow in wearing the style.

Gigi Hadid's red carpet look at this year's Met Gala bought all the drama. Her jewelry was no different, as the model and mother matched her statement-making Versace latex catsuit and floor-length puffer coat with a beaded burgundy necklace by Chopard and a complementing red lip.

Alicia Keys looked timeless in a pair of art deco-inspired Tiffany & Co teardrop earrings, made with a vibrant emerald green stone and diamonds, as well as a bracelet in gold, covered in diamonds, emeralds and Montana sapphires.

Professional boxer Ramla Ali made her own Met Gala debut while simultaneously debuting Cartier's new luxury jewellery collection, Les Indomptables de Cartier, which incorporates playful animal designs. Ali wore a tiger motif necklace and bracelet duo, crafted from 18k yellow gold, onyx, moonstone, black lacquer and tsavorite garnets.

Dakota Johnson knows that good jewelry is just as important as the clothes you wear. She accessorized her sheer Gucci catsuit with its shimmering fringe perfectly with a Messika by Kate Moss waterfall ear cuff.

Amber Valletta

Like several guests this year, Amber Valletta incorporated elegant opera gloves into her Met Gala look for an added touch of glamour—but the model took things one step further, by layering her jewelry over the top for added impact. She showed off her decorative Buccellati jewelry by posing expertly on the red carpet, wearing an impressive pearl-encrusted necklace with matching rings and a bangle.

Jodie Turner-Smith

Jodie Turner-Smith was a vision in shimmering Gucci with show-stopping jewels to match. The star wore diamond floral designs from the fashion house's high jewelry range, as well as elegant strands of diamonds clipped to her hair at the back for 360-degree glamour.

Euphoria's Maude Apatow embodied Gilded Glamour at the 2022 Met Gala. From her flapper-style curled bob to her perfect red lip, she was one of our best-dressed guests. Her glamour didn't stop there; she was shining in diamonds all evening with a statement choker, dainty earrings and a matching hair clip by Cartier.

Paloma Elsesser

We predicted there would be plenty of corsets on the red carpet this year and model Paloma Elsesser perfected the style. She wore a custom design by Coach, with a silk-satin corset that was paired with a hand-embroidered lace skirt, which had been created with repurposed dresses from the 1930s. She added to her interpretation of the theme with a beautiful pearl layered necklace.

Nicola Coughlan

Nicola Coughlan regularly aces red carpet dressing and her Richard Quinn moment at last night's Met Gala was no exception. She matched the drama of her pink and black gown, complete with appliqué flowers and dainty feathers, with a Swarovski ear-cuff with matching pink jewels at the center.
