Italian Flavors Meet Scottish Verve in This Delectable Spritz Recipe
We promise you've never had a spritz quite this complex.
With the Cabrelli Spritz, Scotland and Italy meet one another in a glass. Named after the Cabrelli family at the center of Adriana Trigiani’s new novel The Good Left Undone, this simple cocktail brings together ingredients from two distinct corners of Europe in unique harmony, much like the characters in Trigiani’s romantic historical epic.
This is essentially a lighter and more floral take on a Negroni Sbagliato (a traditional Negroni is made with Campari, sweet vermouth, and gin. The "mistaken" or "broken" Negroni, or Negroni Sbagliato, however, uses sparkling wine in place of gin.) Though this cocktail omits both the gin and sparkling wine, it gets a touch of Scottish flair courtesy of Drambuie, a liqueur from the Isle of Skye made with Scotch whisky, heather honey, and aromatic herbs and spices.
Combined with light and subtly sweet Italian Bianco vermouth and Indian tonic water for a hit of bitterness, the Cabrelli Spritz is lower in alcohol, easy to make, and just slightly on the sweet side of the bittersweet spectrum, making it a delicious and crushable aperitivo for warm-weather imbibing.
