You'll Became a Sazerac Fan After One Sip of This Electrifying Cocktail
Aged rum adds an unexpected sweet note to the traditionally stiff drink.
In Peng Shepherd’s The Cartographers, a young map expert is flung into a world of secrecy and danger when she discovers a rare and valuable map left behind by her late father. In keeping with the novel’s themes of mystery and adventure, our April cocktail is an intriguing combination of spirits that will keep you guessing with each sip.
Dark and mysterious, just like the plot of Shepherd’s novel, "The Mapmaker" is a layered take on the Sazerac. Traditionally made with rye whiskey—or a split base of rye and cognac—this Sazerac riff adds aged rum and Braulio amaro to sweeten, balance, and electrify the otherwise one-note cocktail.
Rum brings in a funky sweetness and Braulio injects some piney freshness, while everything is brought together by the strong anise flavor of Peychaud’s bitters.
