Here at VERANDA, we’re fans of high design, which means that most of the furnishings we gravitate towards aren’t exactly the most wallet-friendly. While we believe that beautiful antiques, personal collections, and custom and well-made furniture will almost always trump the mass-produced items found at big-box stores, we love a bargain just as much as the next person—and it turns out, designers do too.

Our latest cover (May/June 2023) featured an image of a conservatory in an Atlanta home designed by Melanie Turner. The Buckhead home is affectionately known as the ‘Pink Palace,’ and was inspired by Venetian chapels. In the conservatory, you can spot a domed ceiling with a decorative mural, lush plants, and traditional furniture, which are all grounded by a simple diamond seagrass rug.

Designer Melanie Turner said she and her team chose this specific rug by Rush House because it’s “customizable to any size room.” She adds, “Each square is 1 foot, so it’s easy to calculate how much needs to be added to your desired size and to stitch them together. If you need the rug smaller, you can also cut squares off! It’s incredibly versatile. We enjoy using this kind of rug to obtain a high and low look. We never want a room to not be approachable.”

Our cover designer isn’t the only one who loves this under-$500 rug. Jake Arnold, the principal designer behind Studio Jake Arnold co-founder of The Expert says, "The Rush House original rug is a favorite of mine as it works well within so many different architectural styles while adding character and texture to neutral furnishings and palettes.” He adds that the rug is “perfect as an anchor to a space or layered with other materials like wool to add depth and texture to a room.”

Arnold confirmed that Rush House is one of the top-selling brands in The Expert’s Showroom, and the original rug (pictured in Turner’s project on our cover) is the brand's best seller on the platform. He adds, “Designers and shoppers have been buying it in multiples."

Designer Heidi Callier says she’s also been using it in some of her recent projects. "Rush House's jute rugs are a fantastic base for multiple types of rooms. My favorite is the original rug because it can balance both a more moody or feminine palette, and it complements neutrals, bold furnishings, and smaller scale prints," she adds.

The rug comes in six sizes: 5x7’, 6’x9’, 8x10’, 9x12’, 3x9’ runner, and 3x12’ runner. Prices range from $165 to $425, so you can put one of these affordable, designer-approved rugs in every room. Shop this rug at The Expert and Rush House Rugs.
