Picking the perfect shade to deem "Color of the Year" is never easy, but after nearly two years of living through a pandemic, this year’s choice felt as though it carried even more weight to leading paint company PPG. For the brand, the color needed to promote healing, which ultimately led the team to choose Olive Sprig as their 2022 Color of the Year. The grounded grey-green shade is meant to represent regrowth in a post-pandemic world and emulate nature’s resiliency.

“Whether for its calming qualities or its health benefits, green is a staple for wellbeing–something many of us are craving after the past 18 months,” explains Amy Donato, PPG senior color marketing manager.People continue to see green as a way to bring the outside in and during the pandemic, this desire was only magnified. Incorporating greens like Olive Sprig allows for a feeling of healing and balance that nature can bring into our lives.”

Donato further notes that the growing appreciation for green and natural tones guided PPG in picking the hue. Early this year, 30 global color experts participated in PPG’s Global Color Forecasting Workshop to analyze trends and determine what tones would best represent the brand’s color forecast. Resilience and the need to connect with nature were recurring themes at workshop with all the stylists agreeing that a green shade would best suit those needs.

A more neutral shade of green, Olive Sprig has the ability to liven up any interior with an organic appeal and charm. While highly-adaptable to most environment, the standout shade pairs particularly well with wood tones often seen in home bars or on kitchen cabinetry. The mid-tone green even pops when deployed in a dramatic living room with a raspberry velvet couch or a cozy nook with pops of blue and yellow.
