This 5-Minute, Tiki-Inspired Cocktail Will Transport You to the Tropics

Our October cocktail is inspired by the new book Stephen Sills: A Vision for Design, written by fellow designer David Netto. The book features beautiful images of recent projects by the iconic designer's recent projects, so instead of drawing from a location or time period, our cocktail pairing is inspired by a specific room in Sills’ own country home in Bedford, New York. 

A citron-yellow dining room (pictured below) serves as the bold centerpiece to Sills’ otherwise soothing and neutral dwelling. Its warm, technicolor walls are accented with original sketches by Spanish surrealist painter Joan Miró.  

To distill this warm and inviting room into a glass, we’ve created a cocktail that is bold, sweet, and very yellow. The Technicolor Fantasy looks and tastes a lot like a Painkiller, a tropical, tiki-adjacent cocktail birthed in the Virgin Islands in the 1970s, but with some added proof and bitterness, courtesy of overproof rum and fresh grapefruit.
